Wally's Catch of the Day
Lake Winnibigoshish (Winnie) is still producing Walleye. The straight Lindey rig a worm are the correct bait. The trick this time of year is to let the Walleye take the bait, don't try to set the hook to fast, and use a light weight, 1/4 or 3/8 ounce. It can be difficult to feel the bite so the lighter the rigging the better. Good Luck

Wally's Catch of the Day
The Blackduck area fishing has made the mid season change. Walleyes have slowed, but are still being caught on Lake Winnie, if interested try horseshoe, bena, and moses bars. Blackduck Lake walleyes have also slowed but some are being caught in the 13' to 18' range with a lindy rig and a night crawler. Trout fishing on Lake Benjamin is steady. Muskie action has been real hot this summer on Lake Bemidji, Cass Lake, and Leach Lake.

HOT SPOT!!!!! Rainy River!!! Ice is off the river and the Walleye's are running. Yesterday boats were estimated at around 500, this weekend numbers are expected to reach 800 to 1000 per day. C&R = Catch and Release, practice that today and we can do it again tomorrow.

Blackduck Area
Wally's Catch of the Day
Fishing in the area has slowed down, the ice is getting bad and few people are going out on the lakes. Notable lakes are Moose Lake for Blue Gills and Winnie for Perch. Days to mark on the fishing calendar are May 9 - opening day for Walleye, May 23 - opening day for Bass, and June 6 - opening day for Muskie. News for the Blackduck area anlger's is an early ice breakup! Early ice breakups has historically been a good indicator of better than normal opening day fishing on Blackduck Lake, and that is for a lake already known for being an early season producer.

Perch are hungry and biting!!! This is the time many perch anglers wait all year for, perch mania is here! The anglers aren't even reeling'm in, set the hook, pull up the line with the hands, pull out the hook, drop the hook back in the hole and do it again.

Darwin's Secret Lake
Wally's Catch of the Day
It is a good time of year to be fishing for big mouth bass. Darwin's Secret Lake, like most bass lakes in Northern Minnesota, is producing some nice big mouth bass. The warmer water has helped out, the cooler wet June has been replaced by a warmer July which has created some active bass.

Where in the World?
Virtual North Woods
A blonde gal wanted to go ice fishing. She'd seen many books on the subject, and finally, after getting all the necessary "tools" together, she made for the nearest frozen lake. After positioning her comfy stool, she started to make a circular cut in the ice. Suddenly - from the sky-a voice boomed, "THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE". Startled the blonde moved further down the ice, poured a Thermos of cappuccino and began to cut another. Again, from the heavens, the voice bellowed, "THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE" The blonde, now quite worried, moved down to the opposite end of the ice, set up her stool, and tried again to cut her hole. The voice came once more, "THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE" She stopped, looked skyward and said, "Is that you Lord?" The voice replied, "No ... this is the Rink Manager".
